Dorothy Jean White was the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Kirkland White. She was born on May 27, 1940. She professed a hope in Jesus Christ at an early age and became a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member all of her life. A native of Forrest City, she was a graduate of Lincoln Senior High School, class of 1959.

A dedicated member of Salem, she served her church as a president of the deaconess board, volunteered her services to the Salem Summer Enrichment Program and Vacation Bible School.

She was employed by Sanyo Manufacturing Company Inc., formerly Warwick for 38 years. Active in her community, Mrs. Garrett was a member of the Maroon & Gold Alumni Association Reunion Committee.

Miss Dorothy Jean White married her high school sweetheart, Clarence “Fat” Garrett. God blessed the union with two wonderful children. Together with the help of the Almighty they raised their children in the fear and admonition of God. Faithfully committed to her wedding vows, she stood by her husband, Clarence, until he transitioned to his heavenly reward in March of 1972.

Mrs. Garrett loved God, her fellowman and her church. She could be found working for the kingdom in sickness and distress. Mrs. Garrett was a prayer warrior and a faithful servant of the King. She was loving and kind to all, sharing a special bond with her fellow deaconesses. On April 2, 2017, she made her transition from her earthly tabernacle to her heavenly reward joining her parents, Benjamin and Mary White, her siblings, Margaret Stewart, Hermine Pickett, John “White, Sr., Benjamin Jr. and her beloved husband, Clarence. She will be missed, especially her phone calls.

Those remaining to cherish the memory and legacy of Mrs. Dorothy Jean White Garrett are: her children, Donald (Lisha) Garrett of Glen Allen, Va and Sharon (Arthur L. ) Kendrick of Lewisville, Tx; her siblings Lois Dean of Forrest City, Ar, Sederia Daniel of Vallejo, Ca and Lillian (Larry) Ross of Sherwood, Ar; her grandchildren , Donald Isaiah and Victoria and a host of beloved nephews and nieces, brothers and sisters in law, cousins and many cherished friends.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Dorothy Garrett will be at 11:00am on Saturday, April 8th, at Salem Baptist Church, Forrest City, AR. Interment will be in Casteel Cemetery, Forrest City, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm - 5:00pm on Friday, April 7th, 2017, at CLAY FUNERAL HOME, 2522 East Broadway, Forrest City.
